We really wanted to enjoy this place. Really, we did want to love it. It looks great, a nice modern, understated space in the middle of Wanchai. However the food and service were really way below expectations.
Gamba Ajillo (shrimp) were pretty much tasteless. The Croquettes De Jamon were a lump of tasteless potato with ham, which we couldnt find. The Tortilla De Patatas was just a sodden pile of potato and egg, with no real character. The Albondigas meatballs tasted like cardboard.. too much filler stuffing and not enough meat.
We really went to this place for the Churros.. a rare treat in Hong Kong. Sadly, these were mushy on the inside and a bit soggy on the outside. The chocolate mouse or whatever was equally bland and uninspiring.
I mean really folks, this food is not complicated. I can cook this with my eyes closed. Everything tasted like it had been pre-prepared more than a day earlier. Everything was loaded with salt.. there was salt everywhere.
Meanwhile, the place itself was humming. We were seated at the bar. We had the delight of watching the bar staff and the waitresses continually confused and arguing about which drinks were for which table, in loud Tagalog. It really spoiled the atmosphere. The confusion factor ran for the entire hour we were there, right before our eyes.
We're getting sick of eating out in Hong Kong.. this got a 4 out 6 stars in Time Out Magazine. GIve me a break. If this is worthy of a 4, then the reviewers need new tastebuds.
